The Most Accurate Review Ever.
<<< Director Debra Granik has a reputation for getting the most out
of her female leads. She's often been credited for bringing attention to
Vera Farminga in her 2004 movie
Down to the Bone. Her recently
released
Winter's Bone is no different, with the lead character, a 17
year old girl (Jennifer Lawrence),
who is stuck raising her 2 siblings
and her sick mom while trying to save her house.

It can also be said this time around that Granik put the same amount
of focus into the location.

A movie like this is often complimented as being so real and authentic.
In reality Somebodyisfromhere.com doubts many  film critics know
what it's like to live in the backwoods of Missouri amongst meth labs,
while raising your siblings, and trying to hunt down your father who
may or may not be dead in order to save your family's house. While,
Somebodyisfromhere.com likes Missouri, no really he's been there
twice, he has no idea whether or not it's accurate
Still, It's refreshing to see a movie every now and again that takes place outside of the comfort zone. In that way, Somebodyisfromhere.com
was reminded of the movies
A Simple Plan and The Gift.

A contributing factor to why Winter's Bone might feel more authentic is because many of the actors are not well known. The lead was on 23
episodes of "The Bill Engvall Show" and, believe it or not, that might be what she is known most for. Meanwhile, the only other two
recognizable faces are bit HBO players John Hawkes ("Eastbound & Down") and Garret Dillahunt ("John From Cincinnati").

Winter's Bone is based on a book of the same name by Daniel Woodrell. Somebodyisfromhere.com wonders if the slow pacing of the movie,
with the lead's many tribulations, would be better suited in novel form. In other words, it's one thing to see the stress of all her duties, it's
another to read what's going through her mind.
