2008 -- Slumdog Millionaire. India."It is Written," is still one of the best cool lines from any movie. Danny Boyle (Trainspotting)
does his slick directing thing with terrific music.
2007 -- Zodiac. US. David Fincher got nominated for Benjamin Button and made some great genre movies in Se7en and Panic
Room. Hell, Somebodyisfromhere.com even likes The Game and Fight Club was what it was. Zodiac, though, is his masterpiece.
A great detective story (Mark Ruffalo) mixes with a great journalism movie (Robert Downey Jr.).
2006 -- Children of Men. London. Somebodyisfromhere.com might be harping a lot on directors so far, but the job done by
Alfonso Cuaron might be the best job done this generation. It ended up being a smart action movie that put a value on life.
2005 -- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. US. The unique movie about memory erasing and love was scripted by the
most unique scripter around in Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich). Second Mark Ruffalo Movie.
2004 -- City of God. Brazil. More nicknames than a Tarantino movie. As much gang violence as West Side Story without all of
that singing nonsense.
2003 -- The Quiet American. Vietnam. Because what list is complete without a Brendan Fraser movie. But seriously it's pretty
good. It's base on a book by Graham Greene who is probably the best (fictional) travel writer ever. Second Michael Caine movie.
2002 -- Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. US. The most gratified Somebodyisfromhere.com has ever felt leaving a theater.
The underrated movie stars Sam Rockwell with George Clooney and Julia Roberts and is about talk show host Chuck Barris
moonlighting as CIA hitman. Also written by Kaufman.
2001 -- Sexy Beast. Spain. (or Memento? These might seem too guy-movie to earn this spot, and while
Somebodyisfromhere.com respects that, this year sucked)
2000 -- Gladiator. Rome. This one speaks for itself.
2009 -- Up in the Air. An ode to Holiday Inn, Hertz, and American Airlines, Up in
the Air isn't what it has been presented as. The commercials hint romance.
There's some of that. There's a wedding scene that is kind of, you know, cute.
Vera Farminga is certainly worthy of the romance. Anna Kendrick isn't hard to
look at either. The movie though, is about George Clooney's detachment. A
detachment from family and the world that he embraces to the extent that he
even tours the country preaching his way of life.
<<< You can tell a lot about a person by the movies they like. Take
Somebodyisfromhere.com, he recently looked at his favorite movies from the
last decade. Yup, he did one of those wrap-up situations. You'll soon learn,
Somebodyisfromhere.com's favorite movies, much like himself, are very travel
oriented. His favorite movie this year is about domestic travel while 6 of the
other 9 this decade were supposed to have taken place overseas. Of the other
three, two were by the same writer, Charlie Kaufman, showing
Somebodyisfromhere.com's bias and the other was a San Francisco treat.

Up in the Air.
Director Jason Reitman, king of the black dramedy, who previously took on such approachable topics as teen pregnancy (Juno)
and the Tobacco Industry (Thank You For Smoking) continues to perfect his niche. This time around, the movie follows
Clooney's character whose job it is to fire people. To do his job he must constantly be on the road which is how he likes it. All is
well (for him, not his victims) until his boss played by Jason Bateman hired Kendrick's character out of college who wants to
implement a system in which they could fire people by video conference.
Clooney convinces Bateman that Kendrick should see what life on the road is like advocated that canning people in person is
more human. Kendrick having moved to Nebraska to follow a boy sees Clooney as her polar opposite. Her goal is to be able to
own an affordable mid-size SUV. His goal is to keep his life as simple as possible. That is, until he meets Farminga. Up in the Air
takes some twist and turns you wouldn't expect for a movie with its stars and glossy appearance. The best part of it comes from
nowhere, though, so Somebodyisfromhere.com is going to stop talking about it already.
